Shells

Epiarch feels you should be able to have the option to choose from a variety of shell types, not just a couple different woods. To meet this requirement, Epiarch is pleased to offer Keller drum shells in standard maple, or birch and mahogany.

Other shell options besides standard ply shells include:

-Stave shells from nearly unlimited types of woods

-acrylic shells with nearly endless color and design options

-carbon fiber drum shells

-various metal snare shells

Epiarch only uses Keller’s exclusive VSS shell. VSS or “Vibrating Sound Source” is a Keller product patent-pending innovation that enhances the integrity and strength of the shell. They use space age technology to condition each shell, resulting in regenerated vibrations that elevate head response and increases drum performance. You can expect these shells to deliver a wider tonal range, more resonant frequencies, and noticeable volume increases.   Other companies do not always use these highest end version of shells Keller offers.

With Epiarch, 6 ply 100% maple shells come standard. 8 ply and 10 ply shells are also available in both maple and birch.

6 ply shell characteristics: (.160” or 4.1mm thick)
With 6 ply shells, you get a warm open attack with lots of resonance. These shells are ideal for all styles of music.

8 ply shell characteristics: (.214” or 5.4mm thick)
8 ply shells are a good standard weight shell that will give you good resonance and slightly more volume than the 6 ply will. Ideal for all styles of music, but more specifically rock and punk.

10 ply shell characteristics: (.266” or 6.8mm thick)
10 ply shells will have less resonance than the others, but you will gain on volume. If you are in need of more volume, projection and attack, these shells are for you. Ideal for heavier styles of music from rock to metal.
